About LZARC

Who we are

The LZ Amateur Radio Club (LZARC) is a modern amateur radio organization built on curiosity, innovation, and community. Our mission is to create an active, hands-on environment where both new and experienced operators can learn, experiment, and connect. We welcome members from across Southwest Missouri, Southeast Kansas, Northeast Oklahoma, and Northwest Arkansas, building a community that represents the entire four-state region.

LZARC focuses on practical skills, technical exploration, and real-world radio communication. We believe in supporting one another, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for every member to grow.

The intent of this club is not to compete with other regional clubs but to work alongside them and support the broader amateur radio community.

LZMesh Connection

LZARC has strong roots in the LZMesh community, a group known for creativity, experimentation, and technical innovation. Many of our members participate in LZMesh projects, including Meshtastic networks, portable builds, and digital communication experiments.

While LZARC is the club, LZMesh represents the broader technical ecosystem that inspires our projects and supports collaborative learning across the region.

ORIGIN

The Meaning of LZ

The name LZ honors the historic Lead Zinc District, once known as the Tri-State Mining District. This area was built by communities that relied on teamwork, ingenuity, and shared problem solving. Those same values guide LZARC today.

Although the name began as a reference to the Lead Zinc region, our reach has grown far beyond it. LZARC now brings together operators from the entire four-state area who want to learn, build, and strengthen radio communication throughout the region.
